"Graduation"

Today many teachers and staff from Chatsworth, came to our home for Ian's 5th Grade "Graduation".

It was more then we could have hoped for, the continued support we have gotten from our Chatsworth family has been wonderful. Most of them have watched Ian and Becca grow from kindergarten through 5th grade (6th for Becca). They have been with our family through the good, bad and the ugly as things have changed. Some of them remember Ian running up and down the hallways with his classmates, to using "wally" (that is what he called his walker when he used one) to keep up with his classmates...to using "Zippy" (his power chair) along side his classmates. Oh wait, we can't forget him racing in the hallways with the other students who were in wheelchairs. The smiles on Ian's face as guests began to arrive was priceless. Seeing him laugh at some of the things teachers said to him, again priceless. A special thank you goes out to Ms. F, Ian's teacher from Chatsworth, for running with this after my phone call to her asking if this could be done. A special thank you Mrs. V, one of the speech therapists from school, who made all the cupcakes. And let me tell you they were delicious.

All of the wonderful staff that came to celebrate with us.

They gave Ian a Chatsworth shirt signed by all of the Chatsworth staff...current and old...it was great to see it. Truly amazing...seeing some of the names brought back many years of memories for me...forget if they did for Ian...
Becca with some of the wonderful staff.
At this point Ian was just done....WAY TO GO LITTLE MAN! Can't you tell he did not want to be bothered anymore....I can just see him saying "take the picture already and get away from me".

Some how Ian managed to get Outstanding Attendance for Quarter 2...what we found out is that he is marked present by his teacher everyday because they know home and hospital is coming to see him. We all got a great laugh out of this. Ian's certificate of completion....we did tell him that even though he has received this he still must go back to school...and his home and hospital teacher will be here bright and early tomorrow morning.

  49. So happy for Ian. No wonder you always rave about your Chatsworth family. That staff just demonstrated why test scores are a poor measure of the work teachers do and their power to make a difference in a child's total life--not simply school.
