Bereaved Mother’s Day is the first Sunday in May.

7 months (2003)

1st birthday (2004)

Created to honor the grieving mother and her motherhood –

it is a day set aside from traditional Mother’s Day.

2nd birthday (2005)

For some moms, this will be their first bereaved Mother’s Day.

4th birthday (2007)

For some moms, this has become a tradition.

Pre-School Graduation (2007)

7th birthday (2010)

And for some moms, this day will always feel like a consolation prize – a reminder of who’s missing.

Now we are 8 (2011)

No matter how we feel, this day belongs to us –

the grieving mothers.

9th birthday (2012)

We are the mothers who are often forgotten on traditional Mother’s Day.

11th birthday (2014)

We are the moms who might sit

when the moms are asked to stand up.

We are the moms who are used to receiving pity,

but wish we were receiving flowers and cards instead.

We are the moms whose heart will always be full

and whose arms will always be missing someone.

So please celebrate us.

Honor us.

Remember our children with us.

Acknowledge us but not just because we are grieving.

Acknowledge us because we are mothers.
